Ilario Ferrari Trio

The Ilario Ferrari Trio was formed in 2021 and debuted at the Lauderdale house in London nearly at the Peak of a World Pandemic. The concert live streamed in UK & Europe has been very successful. From this very first performance, the synergy between them and their capacity to bring the audience in a beautiful emotional Journey has been very clear to the audience and to them. Their self released debut album “Childhood memories” has received enthusiastic feedback around the world. It has been nominated “One of the best jazz albums in 2021” by the Jazz magazine Jazzists. It has been streamed on playlists and radios in the US, Germany, UK, Russia, JapanBrazil, France, Poland, Spain, and Italy. The trio has been one of the headline artists at the Watford jazz festival 2022 and featured with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in a world premiere composed by Ilario Ferrari for the occasion. They have recently celebrated their second anniversary with a sold out show at the Pizza express jazz club in London and they are now working on their second highly anticipated album.

Childhood Memories

Childhood Memories is a kind invitation to listen to the voice of the inner child within, through 7 Musical portraits. In our Childhood we might have lived many beautiful moments that we cherish, as well as others that challenged us. Why not let all those memories be cradled by the sweet waves of Music? Can Music heal the less positive memories of our past?Moved by these questions, inspired by all the memories that came to me during quiet moments of introspection, I chose 7 of those memories, which I felt resonated more with the audience and the historical moment we are all living, and arranged them for Jazz trio. All the pieces were then gradually shaped together with Charlie Pyne and Katie Patterson over the last year, finding the balance between jazz improvisations, meditative atmospheres, structured compositions and sounds from Mediterranean culture. Every rehearsal has been a joy, so it came natural to us to present this work to the audience through an album and a number of live events.

Be Yourself Project

Be yourself is Ilario’s third album as band leader. After Spread (2016) and “Childhood Memories”  (2021) He is embarking on a new adventure born out of a friendship and collaboration with the Neapolitan "Ondanueve String Quartet". This project will be released on the 21st April 2023 and brought live in a UK tour that will combine his trio, the string quartet and video projections in a series of unique performances that will explore and challenge the boundaries between Jazz, chamber Music, and sounds of the world. "Be yourself" is a quest into the meaning and feeling of being-ness that seems to underline all our experiences.
The Music is moved by a deep spiritual question: ”Who am I?”

It is a sort of “mantra” that has inspired the Italian composer over the years during which he has moved to the UK and composed this work. Ilario wishes to leave this question open and let the Musical experience to facilitate an answer that is invariably different from person to person and from time to time.

As composer he was fascinated by the possibility of creating an album that would both acknowledge the varied classical literature for Piano quintet while exploring the possibility of Jazz improvisation, interplay and modern rhythms between Piano and strings. So he composed these two ambitious suites, the second one after his journey in India and the relationship with his partner of south Indian origin. The first suite is based on a classical Rondo, freely interpreted, with many incursions of sounds and rhythm from Ilario’s south Italian heritage, while for the second suite he has created a personal version of an Indian Yantra to inspire the structure of the work.

“Be yourself” is a celebration in Music of our inherent Uniqueness and search for an authentic self-expression, but also of our feelings of being Interconnected with a larger Universe.

Pianist Ilario Ferrari put together an unforgettable show with bassist Charlie Pyne and drummer Katie Patterson. Special guest, Cuban violin virtuoso Omar Puente completed a lineup that explored just about every dimension of musical performance..
